Resting spaces
During a space's lifecycle, you'll often have periods when you don't need to access the data, but you still want to keep it available on Nuvolos for future use.
The resting feature helps reduce storage costs by moving data you do not currently need to a more affordable storage class.
When you're ready to work with it again, just one click brings it back to the high-performance Nuvolos Filesystem.

Resting states
Your space can be in one of these five states:
Live: The normal state - your files are stored on the Nuvolos Filesystem and ready to use.
Pre-resting: Your space meets the criteria to be rested within 24 hours, and preparations are underway. Your files are still accessible.
Want to keep your space Live? Start any application in the space to prevent the transition.
Entering Rest: A brief transitional state (a few minutes) while your space moves from pre-resting to rested. No actions are allowed during this time to conserve consistency.
Resting: Your data has been moved to more the cost-effective resting storage. You can still download or distribute files through a snapshot, but you can't access them through Nuvolos applications.
Waking: Your data is moving back from resting storage to the Nuvolos Filesystem. This can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on how much data and what kind of data you have stored.
Finding resting spaces
Resting spaces are hidden from your navigation panel by default. To see them, simply toggle the "Resting" visibility option:

Only your 3 most recent spaces are shown here with greyed-out text. To view and manage your full list of resting spaces, click "List all resting projects" at the bottom.

Resting snapshots
When your space enters pre-resting, we automatically create special "resting" snapshots. These snapshots use more cost-effective storage than the Nuvolos Filesystem and are isolated from regular backups. Once your space is rested, all data exists only in regular or rested snapshots. You can check snapshot sizes in the snapshots view of any instance.
Resuming work in a resting state
Ready to work with your data again? Trigger the wake-up process to transfer your files back to the Nuvolos Filesystem.
Click the wake up button in the middle of the screen:

You'll receive an email notification when your space is ready to use.
How long does waking up take? The time required depends on your data volume and may range from a few minutes to several hours. The size of your rested snapshots can serve as a useful estimate.
Configuration
Currently, the resting feature can only be configured at the organization level by organization managers.
Organization managers: Contact Nuvolos support to enable resting and configure these settings:
Eligible spaces: Choose whether to enable resting for all spaces in your organization or just specific ones
Activity threshold: We check each eligible space daily for activity. If no applications have started in any instance since the last check (and the time exceeds your threshold), the space enters pre-resting. We recommend setting the threshold between 30 days and 1 year based on your usage patterns.
Monitoring resting storage
Resource pool managers can track resting storage consumption in the resources dashboard.
Pricing
The resting feature is available in two ways:
Subscription component: Prepay for resting storage as part of your subscription.
Pay-as-you-go: Pay with credits for only what you use.
Contact our support team to learn about pricing for both models.
