# Resting spaces

The resting feature reduces storage costs by moving data you do not currently need to a more affordable storage class. When you are ready to work with the Space again, a single click brings it back to the high-performance Nuvolos file system. For the conceptual model and the five resting states, see [Concepts › The hierarchy and resource model > Resting Spaces](/concepts/nuvolos-basic-concepts/resting-spaces.md).

### Finding resting spaces

Resting spaces are hidden from your navigation panel by default. To see them, toggle the "**Resting**" visibility option in the space-level dropdown in the *breadcrumbs*.

Only your 3 most recent spaces are shown here with greyed-out text. To view and manage your full list of resting spaces, click **LIST ALL RESTING PROJECTS** at the bottom.

### Resting snapshots

When a Space enters pre-resting, Nuvolos automatically creates special resting snapshots. These use cost-effective storage and are isolated from regular backups. Once the Space is resting, all data exists only in regular or rested snapshots. You can check snapshot sizes in the snapshots view of any Instance.

### Resuming work in a resting state

To resume work in a resting Space, trigger the wake-up process to transfer files back to the Nuvolos file system:

1. Click the **WAKE UP** button in the middle of the screen.
2. Wait for the email notification confirming the Space is ready.

The time required depends on data volume and ranges from a few minutes to several hours. The size of the rested snapshots is a useful estimate.

### Configure resting

Currently, the resting feature can only be configured at the organization level by organization managers. Contact Nuvolos support to enable it and to configure:

* **Eligible spaces**: Choose whether to enable resting for all spaces in your organization or just specific ones.
* **Activity threshold**: Each eligible Space is checked daily for activity. If no Applications have started in any Instance since the last check (and the elapsed time exceeds the threshold), the Space enters pre-resting. A threshold between 30 days and 1 year is recommended depending on usage patterns.

Resource pool managers can track resting storage consumption via the [resource monitoring dashboard](/administration/monitoring-resource-usage/resting-limits-and-capacities.md).

### Resting pricing

The resting feature is available in two billing modes:

* **Subscription component**: Prepay for resting storage as part of your subscription.
* **Pay-as-you-go**: Pay with credits for only what you use.

Contact Nuvolos support to discuss pricing for both modes.
