# Work with applications

For more detailed information on managing applications, see the [Applications Guide](https://docs.nuvolos.com/features/applications).

## Create a new application

1. Navigate to the space containing the instance where you want to create the application.
2. Navigate to the instance you want to create the application in.
3. Make sure you are in the **Current state**.
4. On the sidebar click the Screen button (**Applications**), which shows you the Application list.
5. On the top left, click the **+ ADD NEW APPLICATION** button.
6. This brings up the **Application Marketplace**. Once you find the right application, click **+ INSTALL** to add it to your instance.

## Run an application

In order to run an application, you can follow two routes:

**Run a recent application from your dashboard**: Go to the dashboard in the organisation where the application is located and click on the name of the application.

**Run an application from an instance**:

1. Navigate to the space containing the instance where the application is.
2. Navigate to the instance containing the application.
3. Make sure that you are on the **CURRENT STATE**. Applications can only run in the **CURRENT STATE**.
4. On the sidebar click the Screen button (**Applications**), which shows you the Application list.
5. Find the application of interest in the list and click either on the power button or on the **Name** field of your application.

## Stop an application

Stopping applications once they are not used any more is a good practice: you stop using resources allocated to your organization.

There are multiple ways to stop your applications:

1. From the dashboard, or
2. from the instance overview,
3. from the instance sidebar,
4. from the *running applications* header menu.

### Stopping via the dashboard

On the dashboard, the three most recently used applications are always listed. Hovering over the "power button" lets you either enter the instance the app is located in, open the app directly or stop it if the app is running.

### Stopping via the application view of an instance

5. If the power button is green, the app is running. Click on the power button to stop the application.

### Stopping from the sidebar

1. Navigate to the space containing the instance where the application is.
2. Navigate to the instance containing the application.
3. Make sure that you are on the **CURRENT STATE**. Applications can only run in the **CURRENT STATE**.
4. On the sidebar, you should see all app icons that are currently running.
5. Hover on the application you want to stop, a menu will pop up and choose the **Stop** item.

### Stopping from the running applications header menu

1. While you are not inside an application, the top header menu is always visible.
2. Locate the screen icon: **Running applications**.
3. The list of your currently running apps will show up as a drop down.
4. Click on the **Stop** icon next to the app you want to close.
