# I can't edit an instance

* **You do not have permission to edit the instance.**

In order to edit an instance, you must have an Instance Editor role or be a space administrator. If you don't have the necessary role to edit an instance, you can contact a space administrator to request the Instance Editor role, or ask them to make the required changes on your behalf.

* **You are trying to edit the Master or Distributed instance.**

Master and Distributed are primary instances that must exist in every space. Their names and descriptions can't be edited.

* **The edit button is not visible or clickable.**

Make sure you are viewing the INSTANCES tab in the Course Users (or Project Users) section. The pencil icon appears next to each editable instance in the list. If it is not visible, you may not have the required permissions.

* **You have lost connection to the internet.**

If your internet connection is interrupted, the server may not receive your request to edit the instance. Once your connection is restored, refresh the page and try again.

* **There has been a server-side error and the instance update request was not properly processed by Nuvolos.**

In rare cases, a server-side error may prevent the update request from being processed correctly. Wait a few moments, then try editing the instance again.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, please contact support at [**support@nuvolos.cloud**](mailto:support@nuvolos.cloud)**.**
