# Find a state

States represent a point in time within an [instance](https://docs.nuvolos.com/nuvolos-basic-concepts/organisational-hierarchy#instances). For more on how states and [snapshots](https://docs.nuvolos.com/features/nuvolos-basic-concepts/snapshots) work, see [Nuvolos basic concepts](https://docs.nuvolos.com/features/nuvolos-basic-concepts).

## To find a state (snapshot or the current state):

1. Select the organisation where the space is located in the top navigation bar (*breadcrumbs*).
2. Find the space where you are looking for a snapshot.
3. Select the correct instance where you placed the snapshot.
4. Using the breadcrumbs, click on the fourth item list to open the list of states.
5. If you are looking for the current state, then it will be displayed under "Mutable States", while if you want to find a snapshot, then it will be under "Immutable Snapshots". You can also click **LIST ALL SNAPSHOT**, that takes you to the snapshot overview screen.
